El Nido Resorts celebrated World Responsible Tourism Day last November 10. 2010 by organizing coastal and underwater clean-ups around Bacuit Bay, El Nido, Palawan.
Seventy-five guests and staff collected a total of 448.1 kilograms of non-biodegradable waste from seven sites including Natnat Beach, Lagen Cove 4, Malapacao, Pinagbuyutan, 7 Commandos, Snake Island and Dibuluan. More than a hundred crown-of-thorns starfish (Acanthaster plancii), a predator of corals, were also gathered from three different dive sites.
After the clean-up activities, the participants were treated to ENR’s special Copa Verde cocktails while the Environmental Officers gave a presentation on El Nido’s unique beauty and biodiversity and how the resorts operate while promoting responsible tourism.
