El Nido Resorts celebrates Earth Day 2011

El Nido Resorts’ guests and staff joined the rest of the world in celebrating Earth Day 2011 last April 2, 2011 by conducting coastal cleanups at various beaches around Bacuit Bay in El Nido, Palawan.

A total of 305 kg of garbage was collected for the entire day by volunteers. At 124.2 kg, majority of the trash collected by weight was nylon rope used mostly in outrigger boats. This was followed closely by plastic at 116.2 kg. According to Project AWARE Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to conserving underwater environments, 6 million tons of debris enter our oceans each year, which harm underwater environments and wildlife. Therefore, to help keep our waters garbage free and keep various wildlife safe, we should properly dispose of our trash and remove debris on every recreational dive or shoreline visit that we make.
