El Nido Resorts joined the rest of the world in celebrating Earth Hour 2012 last March 31 by turning off our generators from 7:30 to 8:30 PM. During the blackout, guests were treated to dinners by candlelight and acoustic music from the ENR staff. The savings from electricity generation for Miniloc, Lagen, and Apulit Island Resorts totaled Php 5,324.21. These funds will be used to buy seedlings for the reforestation of El Nido’s watershed areas.
Launched in Australia on March 31, 2007, the first Earth Hour moved 2.2 million people and 2,100 businesses in Sydney to turn off their lights for one hour. Their collective effort reduced the city’s electricity consumption by 10.2% for one hour. Inspired by the collective effort of millions of people, cities around the world joined Earth Hour 2008, ushering the start of a global movement.
