May 6th was a special day for Pangulasian Island Resort, as it carried out its first successful Green Hour – an event where electricity is totally cut off throughout the resort for one whole hour.
Green Hours have been continuously practiced in El Nido Resorts as an observance of conserving electricity. It has been a way of showing appreciation for this valuable resource, and reminding staff and guests of its finite nature.
There was excellent dining under the moonlight and star gazing, all done at the candlelit beach front!
A short environmental presentation was also given, as well as a cultural show of native Filipino dancing.
After the event, savings on electricity were monitored. The amount was then set aside for procuring solar lamps for one of El Nido’s isolated towns.

Shutting off the power of a luxury resort is no easy feat! It requires coordination from all staff departments and of course, guests ready to support the idea! Here we see the engineering team at work, ready to shut down the island’s generators.
Lights out! Only candles and stars illuminated the beach. Excellent food was served, conversations were shared and good times were had. There were also two birthday celebrants that night!
The moon decided to show itself later on that night, coming from behind the famous El Nido limestone cliffs.

In the end, everyone was able to support a good cause while having a good time.
Until the next Green Hour!
