El Nido Resorts’ Miniloc, Lagen, Apulit and Pangulasian celebrated World Responsible Tourism Day last November 10 and 18 with Fishing with the Community partners Sitio Kiminawit and Barangay Maytegued. With almost 200 guest bookings since October 2014, they are, no doubt, part of the growing number of communities directly benefiting from tourism.
Apart from meeting guest satisfaction and boosting economic benefits, the activity aims to change the perspectives and practices of local fishermen through the strict implementation of the catch-and-release method for groupers and non-adult fish. To further spread the Be GREEN principles, the resorts specifically engaged the kids to be the next generation of eco-warriors.

In Barangay Maytegued, EO Maxine conducted a Be GREEN outreach to 115 students from Maytegued Elementary School with the help of Apulit Island Resort staff.

Of course, this was followed by games and lots of fun activities!

All the way on the other side, Kiminawit Elementary School students were treated to an afternoon filled with color as El Nido Artists Guild members Toptop Cañizares and Mike led the mural painting of the school wall.

The paintings centred on the rich terrestrial and marine biodiversity El Nido has so that the kids can be reminded everyday of what they must protect.
Of course, ENR environment celebrations are never complete without coastal and underwater cleanups! The combined efforts of 390 resort guests and staff plus the local community garnered a total haul of 244.77kg of trash.
The celebrations could not have come at a better time too as we have just been announced as the winner for Best Branded Accommodation category for the PATA InSPIRE Awards. As a resort brand committed to community-based sustainable tourism, we recognise the vital role our community partners play in bringing us success which is why it comes naturally to us to celebrate events with them and make them feel like they are part of our family.
