Hi everyone!
Welcome to the first entry of the Georgetown University Impacts Fellowship x El Nido Resorts blog. We are a group of seven interns, composed of two students from Ateneo de Manila University in Manila and five students from Georgetown University in Washington, DC (check out our bios here!)

Aside from exploring the tropical gem that is El Nido, we’ll be working on improving sustainability and environmental conservation within the operations of El Nido Resorts and throughout the municipality of El Nido, Palawan. Each Friday we’ll be posting here about our experiences, adventures, opinions, and more. If you’re into environmental conservation, ecotourism, island getaways, or just really, really good Filipino food, come back here each Friday to check out what we do!
For the past two weeks, we have been able to see El Nido from a variety of perspectives: we have visited government offices, toured all of El Nido Resorts’ sustainable operations, and participated in island hopping tours. Not only were we able to witness and explore the biodiversity and natural wonders of El Nido (we saw two hawksbill sea turtles!), but our visits also served as excellent exposure to the challenges and opportunities that exist in El Nido.

Over the next eight weeks, we will be working on three different projects at the intersection of environmental conservation, sustainable tourism, and community engagement. These include conducting an assessment of El Nido Resorts’ sustainability initiatives, supporting an ‘eco-biz’ challenge, and hosting a sustainability summit. Come back every Friday to follow along on our journey as we explore El Nido!
